Nick Herbig, a linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers, attributes his relentless drive and work ethic to growing up as the youngest of three brothers in Kauai, Hawaii. Being constantly challenged by his older brothers to prove himself, Herbig developed a chip on his shoulder that has fueled his success on and off the football field. Despite being undersized for the NFL, he led the Big Ten in sacks during his breakout season at Wisconsin in 2022.

In Pittsburgh, Herbig quickly earned the respect of his coaches and teammates with his relentless play and humble attitude. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin praised Herbig’s work ethic, humility, and unwavering self-belief, qualities that have endeared him to the team. Herbig’s older brother Nate, a veteran offensive lineman who also plays for the Steelers, continues to push and inspire him to be the best player he can be.

Despite his size disadvantage in the NFL, Herbig has excelled in disrupting opposing offenses and learning from seasoned veterans like T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith. His dedication and willingness to learn have been evident in his performance on the field, including his ability to adapt and refine his pass-rushing techniques. Training alongside Watt in the offseason has further accelerated Herbig’s growth and development as a player.

As Herbig prepares to potentially make his first NFL start against the Indianapolis Colts, he remains focused on improving all aspects of his game, including setting the edge on running plays. While known for his pass-rushing prowess, Herbig understands the importance of excelling in all facets of the game to achieve elite status in the NFL. Embracing his underdog mentality, Herbig is determined to continue proving his doubters wrong and solidify his place in the league.

Despite facing challenges in practice with injuries to key players like Alex Highsmith, Herbig remains committed to his growth and development as a player. With a strong work ethic and a relentless drive to succeed, Herbig is poised to continue making an impact for the Steelers and further establish himself as a force to be reckoned with in the NFL.
