Barcelona continued its winning streak in the Spanish league with a 1-0 victory over Getafe, thanks to a goal from Robert Lewandowski. This win marked Barcelona’s seventh consecutive victory in the league, matching their second-best league start ever, achieved in the 2017-18 season. The Catalan club had previously set the record with eight straight wins at the beginning of the 2013-14 season.
Lewandowski, who has been in excellent form, scored his seventh goal of the season in the 19th minute from close range. The Polish striker capitalized on a loose ball in the box after Getafe goalkeeper David Soria failed to secure a high cross into the area. Lewandowski’s goal proved to be the decider in a tightly contested match.
Barcelona has been dominant so far this season, outscoring opponents 23-5 in their first seven games. Their impressive run has given them a four-point lead over archrivals Real Madrid, who also secured a victory in their recent fixture against Alaves.
The Barcelona team showed solidarity with their injured captain Marc-André ter Stegen by wearing t-shirts with messages of support before the match. Ter Stegen, who is a key figure for the team, is currently recovering from a serious knee injury, and his absence has been felt by the squad.
Despite their efforts, Getafe was unable to secure a win and remains winless in the league, languishing near the bottom of the table. In another match on Wednesday, Girona and Rayo Vallecano played out a goalless draw in Girona.
The victory for Barcelona reinforces their status as early front-runners in La Liga, and they will look to maintain their winning momentum in the coming matches.
