The upcoming CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2023 will feature a variety of new venues, with a notable absence of sites on the U.S. East Coast. The tournament, scheduled to take place from June 14 to July 6, will include 14 sites in 11 different areas. Among the new venues selected are BC Place in Vancouver, British Columbia, PayPal Park in San Jose, California, and U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
This decision to exclude U.S. East Coast sites from the Gold Cup may indicate that FIFA is considering hosting games along the Eastern Seaboard for its expanded 32-team Club World Cup. Currently, FIFA has not disclosed the specific locations for the Club World Cup, set to commence on June 15 and conclude on July 13.
In recent years, the U.S. has opted to send second-string rosters to the Gold Cup tournaments in order to provide Europe-based players with essential rest following their club seasons. Mexico stands as the most successful team in Gold Cup history, having secured the title nine times, with their latest victory in 2023. The U.S. follows closely with seven triumphs, including the most recent one in 2021, while Canada clinched the title in 2000.
Various cities across the United States have been chosen as Gold Cup sites, including two locations in Houston (NRG Stadium and Shell Energy Stadium), two in the Los Angeles area (SoFi Stadium in Inglewood and Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson), as well as Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara and PayPal Park in San Jose, both situated in the vicinity of San Francisco. Additionally, the tournament will also feature matches in Arlington, Texas (AT&T Stadium); Austin, Texas (Q2 Stadium); Glendale, Arizona (State Farm Stadium); Las Vegas (Allegiant Stadium); San Diego (Snapdragon Stadium); and St. Louis (Citypark).
With a diverse selection of venues for the upcoming CONCACAF Gold Cup, soccer fans can anticipate an exciting and widely dispersed tournament showcasing top talent from the region.
