Coca-Cola’s Spiced variant is being discontinued after 7 months of availability

Coca-Cola Co. has made the decision to discontinue its recent addition to the market, Coca-Cola Spiced, after introducing it just over seven months ago. The company announced on Wednesday that both Coca-Cola Spiced and Coca-Cola Spiced Zero Sugar will be phased out, making way for a new flavor set to debut next year. In a statement, the Atlanta-based corporation explained that they continually evaluate consumer preferences and make adjustments to their product lineup accordingly.

Coca-Cola Spiced made its debut in the United States and Canada on February 19, with the company hailing it as their first permanent addition to the North American product range in three years. However, the beverage failed to gain traction, potentially due to its misleading name as Coca-Cola Spiced did not deliver a spicy experience but rather had a predominant raspberry flavor. The quick development and launch of the product could also have been a factor in its lack of success, as it was revealed that the creation of Coca-Cola Spiced took only seven weeks, whereas new beverages typically undergo a year-long development process.

Despite the setback with Coca-Cola Spiced, the company remains focused on engaging younger consumers and diversifying its offerings. One of its strategies in capturing consumer interest has been the introduction of Coca-Cola Creations in 2022, comprising a range of eight limited-edition Coke flavors in vibrant packaging, featuring hints of coconut, strawberry, watermelon, and other unique flavors. Additionally, in a bid to cater to evolving consumer preferences, Coca-Cola recently launched a limited-edition Oreo-flavored Coke with specialized black-and-white packaging.

In a bid to further expand its beverage portfolio, Coca-Cola has ventured into the alcoholic beverages market. The introduction of Topo Chico Hard Seltzer in 2021 marked the corporation’s first foray into the U.S. alcoholic beverage sector. Furthermore, a recent collaboration with Bacardi Limited resulted in an agreement to launch a pre-mixed rum-and-Coke cocktail in Europe and Mexico in the coming year. By exploring new flavors, packaging designs, and alcoholic beverages, Coca-Cola is working to stay relevant and appealing to a broad audience across various markets.
