Iván Herrera and Jordan Walker both hit home runs in the St. Louis Cardinals’ 6-5 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Saturday night. The Guardians had already secured the AL Central title earlier in the day. José Ramírez and Bo Naylor also homered for Cleveland, who clinched their 12th division title since 1995.
Miles Mikolas pitched six innings, allowing only one run on four hits to earn his first win since July. Ryan Helsley secured his 46th save of the season, tying him with Guardians reliever Emmanuel Clase for the major league lead.
Matthew Boyd took the loss for Cleveland after giving up two runs in four innings. Andrés Giménez and Bo Naylor contributed with an RBI double and a home run, respectively, for the Guardians.
In the Cardinals’ camp, Sonny Gray was placed on the injured list due to right flexor tendinitis, while RHP Kyle Leahy was recalled from Triple-A Memphis. Gray mentioned he could have continued pitching if the Cardinals were still in playoff contention.
Looking ahead, Guardians’ RHP Gavin Williams is set to face Cardinals’ RHP Andre Pallante in St. Louis’ upcoming home finale on Sunday.
