Rain Causes Postponement of Twins vs. Red Sox Game; Doubleheader Scheduled for Sunday

The matchup between the Minnesota Twins and Boston Red Sox slated for Saturday at Fenway Park has been called off due to rainy weather. To make up for the missed game, a split doubleheader is now scheduled for Sunday. The first game will start at 12:35 p.m. instead of the original 1:35 p.m. time slot, while the rescheduled game will commence at 5:35 p.m.

Originally, pitchers Pablo Lopez for the Twins and Kutter Crawford for the Red Sox were set to start on Saturday. On Sunday, Zebby Matthews and Nick Pivetta were the planned starters for the season series finale.

The Twins currently hold the American League’s third wild-card position. The Red Sox, trailing behind the Detroit Tigers and Seattle Mariners by five games with eight games left to play, are still in contention for a wild-card spot.

In team updates, Twins’ pitcher Ronny Henriquez has been optioned to Triple-A St. Paul, with LHP Brent Headrick called up to fill his roster spot. Meanwhile, the Red Sox placed 3B Rafael Devers on the 10-day injured list due to left shoulder inflammation. C/INF Mickey Gasper was brought up from Triple-A Worcester to replace Devers. Additionally, RHP Luis Garcia has been reinstated from the IL after recovering from right elbow inflammation, leading to RHP Cooper Criswell’s option to Triple-A Worcester. RHP Liam Hendriks, who has been out all season recuperating from Tommy John surgery, took to practicing on Saturday after a recent cortisone shot, with hopes of returning to pitch this season.
