Blake Craig bounces back from 3 missed field goals, secures No. 7 Missouri’s 30-27 victory against Vanderbilt in double-overtime

In a thrilling game on Saturday night, No. 7 Missouri narrowly defeated Vanderbilt 30-27 in double-overtime. The victory came after Vanderbilt’s Brock Taylor missed a 31-yard field goal attempt, allowing Missouri’s Blake Craig to redeem himself with a successful 37-yard field goal in the second overtime.

Missouri’s quarterback, Brady Cook, had an impressive performance with 226 passing yards and two touchdowns, while running back Nate Noel contributed 199 rushing yards. The Tigers improved their record to 4-0, avoiding a loss that could have jeopardized their College Football Playoff aspirations.

Vanderbilt, with quarterback Diego Pavia’s 178 passing yards and two touchdowns, fought hard but ultimately fell short. Despite earlier victories this season, including an overtime win against Virginia Tech, the Commodores now stand at 2-2.

Vanderbilt had opportunities to win previous games but couldn’t hold onto leads. Missouri, on the other hand, managed to overcome mental errors and penalties for the second consecutive game. Their ability to rally and secure close wins has kept them undefeated this season.

A crucial moment in the game came when both kickers, Blake Craig and Brock Taylor, missed critical field goal attempts in the fourth quarter, sending the game into overtime. Craig missed three field goals before finally making the game-winning kick.

Both teams have a week off before facing tough matchups. Vanderbilt will take on No. 4 Alabama, while Missouri will travel to face No. 25 Texas A&M on October 5th.
