Tennessee Tech secured a 24-14 victory over Tennessee State in the Big South-OVC Association opener for both teams. The game saw Obie Sanni score on a 54-yard run and Ty Moss seal the win with a 56-yard pick-6. Jordyn Potts kicked off the scoring for the Golden Eagles with a 12-yard run, followed by Sanni’s 14-0 lead in the first quarter.
Tennessee State managed to tie the game in the second quarter thanks to Boogie Trotter’s 69-yard interception return and a 25-yard pass from Jalal Dean to Draylen Ellis. In the second half, Tennessee Tech took the lead with a 34-yard field goal by Dom LeBlanc and Moss’s interception return.
With the Tigers seeking a tying score late in the game, Moss intercepted an Ellis pass and ran down the left sideline for a touchdown, securing the win with 1:05 left on the clock. Tennessee Tech accumulated 220 rushing yards, led by Sanni with 75 and Jalen Mitchell with 72. Potts completed 12 of 25 passes for 94 yards with one interception.
Ellis threw for 246 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions on 22-of-39 passing. Despite the passing performance, Tennessee State was unable to gain any rushing yards, finishing with zero on 27 attempts.
