In the first cricket test between India and Bangladesh, pace bowler Hasan Mahmud impressed by taking his second consecutive five-wicket haul, finishing with figures of 5-83 as India was bowled out for 376 runs in their first innings on Day 2. This marked Mahmud as the first Bangladeshi bowler to achieve a five-wicket haul in India, following his recent performance of 5-43 against Pakistan.
Taskin Ahmed also contributed significantly to ending India’s innings swiftly on the second morning, taking 3-55. Ravichandran Ashwin shone with the bat for India, scoring 113 runs – his sixth test century and a personal best at his home ground.
On the other hand, Bangladesh faced a challenging start in their innings, reaching 26-3 after nine overs at lunch on Friday. Indian pacers Akash Deep (2-5) and Jasprit Bumrah (1-10) were instrumental in this early setback for the visitors, leaving Bangladesh trailing by 350 runs.
During the match, Ravindra Jadeja was dismissed early, and Ashwin had a strong partnership with him, turning the game around after India was precariously placed at 144-6 on the first day. Despite the efforts of Ashwin and other batsmen, India’s innings concluded at 376 runs, with Ashwin eventually being caught out to receive applause from his hometown crowd.
Bangladesh had chosen to bowl after winning the toss, capitalizing on the overcast conditions on the first day with Mahmud taking four wickets. The teams will soon face each other in the second test in Kanpur starting on September 27, followed by three Twenty20 matches.
