Saints quarterback Derek Carr has reportedly been fined $14,000 by the NFL for his touchdown celebration that involved imitating a Michael Jackson dance move. The celebration occurred during the Saints’ victory over Dallas last weekend, where Carr performed a short rushing touchdown and celebrated by swiveling his raised right knee, placing one hand in front of his groin area, and thrusting his hips forward.
Despite not being penalized during the game, Carr received the fine for the celebratory dance. He explained that the inspiration for the dance came from his brothers who had seen him dance at various events like weddings and birthdays. “They see me all the time at weddings or birthdays. I’m always dancing. One time I hit the Michael Jackson, and they were like, ‘Bro, you’ve got to do that one time when you score a touchdown,'” Carr shared.
The quarterback jokingly added, “I was a dancer in my day. Don’t let the four kids fool you.” The NFL fine, first reported by Pro Football Talk, was issued a few days after the game. This incident has sparked discussions about the NFL’s regulations on celebratory actions following scores.
