Angels defeat White Sox with Adams’ infield single in 13th inning, handing White Sox 117th loss and securing 4-3 victory

Eric Wagaman’s walk-off hit in the 13th inning propelled the Los Angeles Angels to a 4-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday. The loss marked the White Sox’s 117th of the season, tying them with the 1916 Philadelphia Athletics for the third-most losses in a season since 1900. Chicago must now finish their season with a 7-2 record to avoid tying the post-1900 record of 120 losses set by the 1962 New York Mets.

The game was tightly contested, with both teams scoring in the 10th, 11th, and 13th innings. Andrew Vaughn’s home run in the fourth inning contributed to the White Sox’s offensive effort. The Angels tied the game in the eighth with a run driven in by Taylor Ward.

The White Sox had a chance to score in the 13th inning with the bases loaded, but José Quijada came through with a crucial strikeout to end the threat. Yoán Moncada, who returned from a lengthy injury absence, had a tough at-bat in the 13th.

Both teams had opportunities to score throughout extra innings, with the Angels finally capitalizing in the 13th on Wagaman’s hit. The White Sox now head to San Diego for a series with the Padres before finishing the season with games against the Angels and Detroit.

In terms of injuries, Angels outfielder Mickey Moniak did not start for the third consecutive day due to a left hand issue but entered the game as a pinch runner.

Upcoming matchups include White Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet (6-12, 3.78 ERA) facing the Padres on Friday, while the Angels travel to Houston for a series with left-hander José Suarez (1-2, 6.80 ERA) making his second start of the season on Thursday.
