Rams opt against placing WR Cooper Kupp on injured reserve, anticipating swift comeback

The Los Angeles Rams have decided against placing receiver Cooper Kupp on injured reserve in the hope that he can recover from his ankle injury within a shorter timeframe. Despite this decision, offensive lineman Jonah Jackson and safety John Johnson were both placed on injured reserve following injuries sustained during Los Angeles’ recent loss to Arizona. Kupp injured his ankle in the second quarter of the game against the Cardinals but will not require surgery. He is currently in a cast to limit movement but may have a chance to return before the mandatory four-game absence mandated by injured reserve, particularly because the Rams’ bye week falls within that period.

While the possibility of Kupp being placed on injured reserve still looms, head coach Sean McVay mentioned that there is optimism about his potential return before the completion of the mandatory four-game absence. Despite the team’s need for available roster spots due to multiple injuries, McVay highlighted the strategic advantage of Kupp’s potential return within the specified timeframe. The Rams’ injured reserve list has quickly filled up with players like Puka Nacua, Darious Williams, Steve Avila, and Joe Noteboom, in addition to Jackson and Johnson.

Kupp is anticipated to sit out for at least the upcoming three games, posing a challenge for the Rams’ offensive lineup alongside quarterback Matthew Stafford. The team is carefully managing its roster as they navigate the early season injuries, with a keen eye on maximizing player availability and recovery opportunities.
