Kevin de Bruyne at risk of injury as Manchester City draws 0-0 with Inter Milan

Manchester City is facing a new injury concern for Kevin De Bruyne ahead of their upcoming match against Arsenal in the Premier League. De Bruyne was substituted at halftime during Wednesday’s Champions League game against Inter Milan due to discomfort. He did not return for the second half, with Ilkay Gundogan replacing him. The match ended in a 0-0 draw. City is set to host Arsenal at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

De Bruyne had a challenging season last year due to injuries, missing five months with a hamstring problem. Despite this, he helped City secure their fourth consecutive English title. Having started every game this season, De Bruyne scored a goal in City’s recent 4-1 victory over Ipswich. City has successfully fended off competition from Arsenal in the past two seasons to claim the title, and Arsenal is anticipated to be their main rival again this season.

Arsenal is also dealing with their own injury setbacks as captain Martin Odegaard has been ruled out with ankle ligament damage. In the absence of De Bruyne, City struggled to break through Inter’s defense and failed to score at home in the Champions League for the first time since March 2022 when they played Sporting Lisbon to a 0-0 draw. This marked only the second occasion since then that Guardiola’s team has failed to score at home, with the other instance being another 0-0 draw against Arsenal in the league in March.

Manchester City extended their unbeaten streak at home in European games to 32, with their last loss dating back to a 2-1 defeat against Lyon in 2018.
