Chiefs aiming to activate Kareem Hunt soon following Isiah Pacheco’s injury

The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to reintegrate running back Kareem Hunt onto the field in the coming weeks to help offset the loss of Isiah Pacheco, who suffered a potentially season-ending ankle injury. Head coach Andy Reid mentioned that while Hunt may not be ready to play this weekend against Atlanta, he could see playing time shortly after once he becomes familiar with the offense’s concepts and language. Hunt recently signed with the Chiefs’ practice squad after Pacheco’s injury during their last game against Cincinnati.

In the absence of Pacheco, the Chiefs are likely to rely on undrafted rookie Carson Steele and veteran Samaje Perine in the upcoming game against the Falcons. Additionally, third-year pro Keaontay Ingram has been moved up from the practice squad to provide depth in the running back position. Reid expressed confidence in Ingram’s readiness to play, highlighting his strong performance during training camp.

Hunt, who was initially drafted by the Chiefs in 2017, is starting afresh with the team where he began his NFL career. After a controversial incident led to his release from the Chiefs in 2018, Hunt went on to join the Cleveland Browns and has since amassed over 2,000 yards rushing in the past five years. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Hunt’s former teammate, praised him for his playing style and expressed excitement about his return to the Chiefs’ organization.

Regarding the offensive line, Mahomes addressed uncertainties surrounding rookie left tackle Kingsley Suamataia’s starting position for the upcoming game. Suamataia faced challenges against the Bengals and was replaced by Wanya Morris during the last game. Despite some struggles, Mahomes emphasized trust in both players and acknowledged the coaching staff’s role in determining the best lineup for the team.
