Upcoming Diamond League athletics series to boost prize money for athletes

The Diamond League track and field series will see an increase in its prize money for the upcoming season, as announced by World Athletics on Wednesday. The total prize money for 2025 is set to reach $9.2 million, marking the highest amount since the series’ inception in 2010. This announcement coincides with World Athletics president Sebastian Coe’s candidacy for the presidency of the International Olympic Committee.

In 2025, the series will feature 14 one-day meets along with the two-day final in Zurich in August. Each discipline will offer total prize money ranging between $30,000 and $50,000 at the regular meets, and between $60,000 and $100,000 at the final. Notably, the prize money will be distributed equally between male and female athletes.

This boost in prize money aims to enhance the competitiveness and appeal of the Diamond League series, providing athletes with greater financial incentives and recognition for their achievements on the track and in the field. The increased funding underscores a commitment to supporting and promoting athletics at the highest level, further solidifying the Diamond League’s status as a premier international track and field competition.
