Bryan Woo of the Seattle Mariners had an outstanding performance, taking a perfect game into the seventh inning before giving up a home run to Fernando Tatis Jr. The Mariners secured a 5-2 victory over the San Diego Padres on Wednesday night, with key contributions from Luke Raley and J.P. Crawford. Woo’s impressive pitching helped Seattle narrow the gap to 3 1/2 games behind first-place Houston in the AL West.
Despite Woo’s dominant display, the perfect game was broken by Tatis Jr.’s home run. Woo struck out four batters through six innings and maintained control of the game until he allowed a double and a walk in the seventh, leading to the only two runs scored by the Padres during the night.
Seattle had a strong offensive showing, scoring three runs in the third inning with the help of errors by the Padres. They added more runs in the later innings, with Crawford delivering an RBI hit and Raley driving in two runs.
San Diego’s Michael King pitched five solid innings, allowing only one earned run, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win. The Padres made roster moves, including sending Luis Campusano to Triple-A due to a lack of playing time, and recalling outfielder Brandon Lockridge and LHP Tom Cosgrove.
The Padres will face the San Francisco Giants after an off day, while the Mariners are set to begin a series against the Texas Rangers with Bryce Miller starting the opener.
