Vietnam storm claims 141 lives as flash flood devastates hamlet

In northern Vietnam, a flash flood caused the tragic loss of life in a hamlet as 16 people perished, and many others are still missing. Following the devastation brought by Typhoon Yagi, the death toll has reached 141 individuals. Vietnamese state broadcaster VTV reported that the flash flood struck Lang Nu hamlet in Lao Cai province on Tuesday, engulfing it with mud and debris and affecting 35 families. Despite the dire situation, a few individuals have managed to survive the disaster. Search and rescue teams have recovered 16 bodies so far, with approximately 40 people still unaccounted for.

The aftermath of Typhoon Yagi, along with the ensuing rainfall leading to floods and landslides, has taken a toll on Vietnam. The latest figures indicate that apart from the fatalities, 69 individuals are still missing, and numerous others have sustained injuries as well. Subsequent to its landfall on Saturday with wind speeds reaching up to 149 kph (92 mph), Typhoon Yagi, the most forceful typhoon in the region for many years, has brought persistent heavy rainfall. Even though the typhoon weakened on Sunday, the risk of further flooding persists, with river levels remaining alarmingly high.
