Morehead State secured a 48-7 victory against Kentucky State on Saturday, with Connor Genal leading the charge by throwing for 221 yards and three touchdowns. Initially, Kentucky State surprised everyone by taking a 7-3 lead in the first quarter after Jett Engle connected with Dejon Winburn for a 16-yard touchdown pass. The Knights capitalized on a penalty against Morehead State’s Jackson Benajmin to set up the scoring play.
However, Morehead State quickly turned the game around, with Genal making a 63-yard touchdown pass to Nate Garnett, giving them the lead they held for the rest of the game. Just before halftime, Genal threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Upp, extending Morehead State’s lead to 20-7. In the third quarter, Genal and Upp connected again for a 13-yard touchdown, bringing Morehead State’s lead to 27-7.
On the Kentucky State side, Engle struggled, throwing for 102 yards and being intercepted four times throughout the game. Morehead State’s solid performance led them to a convincing victory and a 2-0 record for the season.
