Iowa State’s Konrardy makes game-winning 54-yard field goal with 6 seconds remaining to defeat No. 21 Iowa, 20-19

Iowa State’s Kyle Konrardy kicked a 54-yard field goal with six seconds left to secure a 20-19 victory over No. 21 Iowa in a thrilling matchup. It marked only the Cyclones’ third win in the last 11 encounters against the Hawkeyes. The game-winner came after a successful drive that saw Rocco Becht complete three passes to set up the kick, starting from Iowa State’s 22-yard line.
Iowa took the lead 19-7 in the third quarter with a 4-yard touchdown run by Kaleb Johnson. However, Iowa State mounted a comeback with Becht throwing a 75-yard touchdown pass to Jaylin Noel and Konrardy adding a 46-yard field goal. Johnson had an impressive game for Iowa, rushing for 187 yards and scoring two touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough to secure the victory.
The Hawkeyes missed crucial opportunities to capitalize on their drives deep in Cyclone territory, settling for field goals when in prime scoring positions. Despite a strong defensive effort, Iowa couldn’t withstand the pressure in the final moments, allowing Iowa State to clinch the win.
Becht led the Cyclones with 272 passing yards and a touchdown pass to Higgins. Iowa’s McNamara struggled with 99 passing yards and threw a critical interception in the closing moments. Iowa State outgained Iowa with 361 total yards compared to Iowa’s 303 yards.
Looking ahead, Iowa State is set to host Arkansas State next Saturday, while Iowa will face Troy on their home turf. Both teams will aim to bounce back from their respective outcomes in the next fixtures.
