Rafael Jodar from Spain came from behind to secure victory in the U.S. Open boys’ singles championship by defeating top-seeded Nicolai Budkov Kjaer from Norway with a score of 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 on Saturday. Jodar, seeded 12th, prevented Budkov Kjaer from claiming a consecutive major title following his triumph at Wimbledon, where he became the first Norwegian male to win a Grand Slam singles title at junior or professional levels.
Jodar, set to turn 18 on September 17, expressed uncertainty about whether he would still attend the University of Virginia as originally planned. In the girls’ category, 15-year-old Mika Stojsavljevic from Britain clinched the title by defeating No. 7 seed Wakana Sonobe from Japan in a match that ended 6-4, 6-4.
The top-seeded duo comprised of Czech player Maxim Mrva and Rei Sakamoto from Japan emerged victorious in the boys’ doubles event after a close match against Denis Petak and Flynn Thomas, finishing with a score of 7-5, 7-6. In the girls’ doubles final, Norway’s Emily Sartz-Lunde and Malak El Allami from Morocco triumphed in a match tiebreaker against Julie Pastikova and Julia Stusek with a score of 6-2, 4-6, 10-6.
The competition showcased remarkable talent and thrilling matches, culminating in well-deserved victories for the winners in the various categories.
