Luis Suárez continued his goal-scoring streak by netting two goals in Inter Miami’s 4-1 victory over the Chicago Fire on Saturday night. In the previous match, Suárez also scored twice against FC Cincinnati, helping the team secure a playoff spot in record time for a 34-match season. Inter Miami is now the third-fastest team to achieve this feat, following Los Angeles FC in 2019 and 2022 and Cincinnati in 2023.
Inter Miami took the lead in the first half with an own goal by Chicago defender Tobias Salquist in the 25th minute. Suárez extended the lead, scoring early in the second half and later securing his 16th goal of the season in the 65th minute, setting a single-season club record. Additional assists came from Diego Gómez, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets, contributing to Inter Miami’s dominant performance.
Despite Chicago avoiding a shutout with a goal from Georgios Koutsias in the 82nd minute, Inter Miami sealed the victory with Robert Taylor scoring in stoppage time. Inter Miami’s goalkeeper, Drake Callender, made three crucial saves during the game, while Chris Brady of the Fire stopped five shots.
Inter Miami now holds a 3-4-1 record against Chicago and played without star player Lionel Messi once again, who has been out of action since sustaining an ankle injury during the Copa America final in mid-July. Looking ahead, the Fire will face D.C. United, while Inter Miami’s next match is against Charlotte FC on September 14.
