Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman started off Saturday’s game with back-to-back-to-back home runs for the Los Angeles Dodgers against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Ohtani crushed his 44th homer of the season with a 420-foot shot to dead center on a full count from Diamondbacks starter Merrill Kelly. Betts then followed with his 14th homer on an 0-1 pitch, and Freeman extended the streak by belting his 19th homer of the season to right-center on Kelly’s very next pitch. This remarkable feat marked the first time these three star players had gone yard consecutively.
Corbin Carroll kick-started the Arizona team’s offense by hitting an inside-the-park home run against Los Angeles starter Gavin Stone to kick off the Diamondbacks’ half of the first inning. Carroll scored standing up as center fielder Kevin Kiermaier leaped at the wall, allowing a fortuitous bounce back toward the infield. Carroll’s inside-the-park homer was his 19th of the season and his fifth in the last five days, including two in Wednesday’s game against the New York Mets.
After an exciting first inning, the Diamondbacks took a 4-3 lead on Lourdes Gurriel Jr.’s two-run double and Eugenio Suarez’s sacrifice fly.
