Trump plans to visit key swing districts in Michigan and Wisconsin to ramp up battleground campaigning

Donald Trump has a full day of campaigning planned in Michigan and Wisconsin as he continues to focus on winning back states he narrowly lost in the 2020 election. His schedule includes rallies in Potterville, Michigan, near Lansing, and La Crosse, Wisconsin, moderated by former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, who endorsed him in Detroit earlier this week. These visits mark Trump’s third trip to Michigan in the past nine days and his first visit to Wisconsin since the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
Trump’s efforts in these two states are part of a larger strategy to reclaim the northern industrial bloc, which includes Pennsylvania, a state he plans to visit on Friday. These states were traditionally carried by Democrats before Trump’s victory in 2016 and Biden’s win in 2020. He is joined by his vice-presidential pick, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, in this campaign push.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Party has been energized by the candidacy of Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. They are working to capitalize on the enthusiasm within the party base following Harris’ campaign launch just over a month ago. Harris and Walz are embarking on a bus tour in Georgia to engage with supporters in both urban and rural areas.
Trump’s events in Michigan and Wisconsin are strategically located in swing congressional districts. Potterville falls within Michigan’s 7th District, known for its mix of Republican-dominated and Democratic strongholds. In Wisconsin, La Crosse is part of the 3rd Congressional District, where Democrat Rebecca Cooke won the primary and will face Republican Derrick Van Orden in the upcoming election.
