The second Shohei Ohtani bobblehead giveaway at Dodger Stadium is drawing massive crowds, reminiscent of the previous giveaway. Long lines of cars were seen five hours before the game against the Baltimore Orioles, with drivers even navigating through blocked intersections. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, who faced delays entering the stadium, assisted a worker in reaching the venue. The bobblehead, depicting Ohtani with his dog named Decoy, was limited to the first 40,000 fans, with some receiving special gold versions.
Fans, including many Japanese supporters, patiently queued in the scorching sun for the giveaway. The first Ohtani bobblehead giveaway in May led to a sellout crowd of 53,527, the largest in the major leagues for the season. Ohtani is set to receive another promotional item in September to commemorate his inaugural season in Los Angeles. Previously, giveaways included hats in July.
Ohtani, who recently achieved a historic milestone by hitting 40 home runs and stealing 40 bases in the same season, is now aiming for an unprecedented 50 homers and 50 stolen bases. Manager Dave Roberts expressed astonishment at the fervor surrounding Ohtani, highlighting the player’s unique impact on the sport. Ohtani joined the Dodgers last December on a significant 10-year contract and has continued to astound fans and professionals alike with his exceptional performance on the field.
