The Texas Rangers defeated the Chicago White Sox 3-1 in a game that resumed on Wednesday after being suspended after just four pitches the previous night. Marcus Semien’s tiebreaking RBI double in the seventh inning proved to be the difference, with Corey Seager also contributing a run-scoring single. The win improved Texas to 5-0 against Chicago this season. Matt Festa earned the win, and Kirby Yates secured his 24th save of the season.
When the game resumed, Semien had a 2-2 count against pitcher Chris Flexen, ultimately resulting in a leadoff walk. Flexen was charged with three runs and nine hits in 6 1/3 innings, dropping to 0-10 in his last 20 appearances. The White Sox fell to 4-31 since the All-Star break and 31-102 overall.
Adolis García’s RBI double put Texas ahead in the first inning, but Chicago responded with Corey Julks’ tying single in the third. Semien’s RBI double in the seventh and Seager’s run-scoring single extended the Rangers’ lead to 3-1.
Andrew Heaney, the Rangers’ left-hander, allowed five hits in five innings. In terms of player updates, Jacob deGrom’s rehab start went well for Texas, and RHP Steven Wilson started a rehab assignment for the White Sox at Triple-A Charlotte.
In the regularly scheduled game, Jack Leiter was expected to start for Texas while the White Sox were yet to decide on their starting pitcher after assessing the first game’s outcome.
