The Seattle Mariners have brought back shortstop J.P. Crawford from the 10-day injured list, while sending outfielder Dominic Canzone to Triple-A Tacoma. Crawford had been sidelined since July 23 due to a right hand fracture sustained when he was hit by a pitch from Los Angeles Angels pitcher Tyler Anderson on July 22. Following a couple of rehab outings in Tacoma over the weekend, Crawford has been cleared to return to the Mariners’ lineup.
Crawford, a key player for Seattle since 2019, is encountering a challenging season at the plate compared to his impressive performance in 2023. Last year, Crawford boasted a .266 batting average in 145 games, hitting a career-best 19 home runs and driving in 65 runs. However, in the current 2024 season marred by injuries, he has struggled to replicate those numbers. The 29-year-old infielder holds a .204 batting average with nine homers and 32 RBI in 77 games this season, having already missed 26 games earlier due to an oblique strain.
On the other hand, Canzone, who is batting .196 in 67 games this season with eight home runs and 17 RBI, will head to Triple-A Tacoma. He has dealt with injuries that caused him to be absent for a significant portion of the season. Canzone was part of a trade in July 2023 that brought him from the Arizona Diamondbacks to the Mariners alongside infielder Josh Rojas.
