Odell Beckham Jr. is set to sit out the initial four games of the 2024 NFL season as he begins on the physically unable to perform list with the Miami Dolphins. Despite signing a one-year deal with the Dolphins in May, Beckham has not been able to join his new team on the field due to an undisclosed injury. The Dolphins brought in the three-time Pro Bowler to strengthen their receiving corps, led by star receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, to support quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
Tagovailoa expressed his positive interactions with Beckham off the field but highlighted the challenge of establishing a connection on the field without having practiced together. Beckham, originally drafted by the New York Giants in 2014, has faced various injuries in recent seasons following his impressive rookie debut. Before joining the Dolphins, he recorded 35 catches for 565 yards and three touchdowns with the Baltimore Ravens last season.
Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel remains optimistic about Beckham’s injury status, indicating no significant concerns. However, Beckham’s absence at the start of the season poses a setback for the Dolphins’ receiving unit, which has already been dealing with multiple injuries leading up to the 2024 campaign. Receiver River Cracraft was placed on injured reserve after sustaining an upper body injury during the preseason. Although not ruled as season-ending, Cracraft will be out for an extended period, with potential to return later in the season.
Following final roster cuts, the Dolphins concluded Tuesday with four active receivers: Hill, Waddle, Braxton Berrios, and rookie Malik Washington. Both Waddle and Hill have dealt with injuries, with Waddle missing practice time due to an undisclosed injury and Hill sitting out the team’s last preseason game. The Dolphins are working to overcome these challenges as they prepare for the upcoming season.
