The Houston Astros secured a 6-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday night, thanks to solo home runs by Alex Bregman and Yainer Diaz in the seventh inning. The victory led to a split of the four-game series between the teams. Ramón Urías of the Orioles tied the game in the fifth with a three-run homer, but Bregman and Diaz’s back-to-back homers in the seventh put Houston ahead 5-3 off Burch Smith (2-1).
Hector Neris (1-0) earned the win, registering four outs in his first appearance since rejoining the Astros. Houston’s Bryan Abreu handled the eighth inning, with Josh Hader making his 28th consecutive save of the season. The Astros continue to lead the AL West by 4 1/2 games, while the Orioles fell 1 1/2 games behind the AL East leaders, the New York Yankees.
During the game, Astros left fielder Mauricio Dubón made a spectacular catch but collided with the wall, requiring him to leave the game. Yusei Kikuchi kept the Orioles hitless until the fifth inning, when Eloy Jiménez got a single. The Orioles struggled to produce hits in the game, managing just two against Houston.
Houston took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning with five consecutive two-out hits. Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez missed his third straight game with a neck issue, while Orioles players Ryan Mountcastle and Cedric Mullins were sidelined due to wrist and quad injuries, respectively.
In upcoming games, the Astros will face the Philadelphia Phillies, with Justin Verlander starting for Houston against Zack Wheeler. The Orioles will have a day off before taking on the Los Angeles Dodgers, sending Cole Irvin to the mound against Jack Flaherty.
