Rhys Hoskins and Joey Ortiz both hit home runs in the second inning, contributing to a five-run rally for the Brewers. This victory marks the seventh win in nine games for the Brewers. The second inning saw nine batters sent to the plate by the Brewers, resulting in a 5-1 lead. Hoskins, who had been hitless in his last 21 at-bats, broke the streak with a three-run homer after singles by Willy Adames and Gary Sánchez. Following Hoskins, Ortiz hit a home run to left-center, and Andruw Monasterio added to the run count by scoring from first on a single by Jackson Chourio.
Blake Perkins and Chourio further extended the Brewers’ lead in the fourth inning by knocking in runs, bringing the score to 7-1. Sánchez later hit a triple, bringing in three runs, and Hoskins scored on a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning. Both starting pitchers, Aaron Civale for the Brewers and JP Sears for the A’s, did not last five innings. Civale allowed three runs in four innings, while Sears gave up five earned runs before exiting the game with two outs in the third inning. Sears, who had been performing well with a 3-0 record and a 1.57 ERA in his last four starts, could not maintain his streak in this game.

Reliever Ross Stripling pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings after Sears left the mound. Bryan Hudson earned the win for the Brewers with two scoreless innings following Civale’s departure. Lawrence Butler of the A’s started the game with a homer and later added an RBI in the fourth inning to lessen the Brewers’ lead to 7-3. The game drew an announced crowd of 14,031 fans at the Coliseum. In terms of player updates, Perkins returned to the lineup for the Brewers after being activated from the 10-day injured list on Thursday. Looking ahead, RHP Joe Boyle will start for the A’s in the second game of the series, while RHP Colin Rea is set to pitch for the Brewers.
