Former Seattle Mariners player Dan Wilson has taken on a new role as the team’s manager amidst a challenging season for the franchise. Wilson, who spent 12 seasons as a catcher for the Mariners in the 1990s, has been appointed as the replacement for Scott Servais, who was let go after a rough stretch that saw the team’s playoff hopes dwindle in the American League standings. The 55-year-old will make his managerial debut in the upcoming game against the San Francisco Giants, with 34 games left in the regular season.
Servais, who had been with the team for nine seasons, had one of the longest managerial tenures in franchise history before his departure. Wilson’s appointment comes at a crucial time for the Mariners, who have struggled since holding a significant lead in the AL West back in June. With a current record of 64-64, the team is looking to turn things around under Wilson’s leadership and make a push for the playoffs in the remaining games of the season.
