Ohio State safety Caleb Downs and three of his new teammates were chosen for the preseason Associated Press All-America team. Downs, a transfer from Alabama, was a second-team All-American last season. Ohio State had the most first-team selections with Downs, guard Donovan Jackson, receiver Emeka Egbuka, and cornerback Denzel Burke. The Buckeyes also had running back TreVeyon Henderson and defensive lineman Tyleik Williams on the second team, totaling six selections.
Georgia and Michigan each had three players selected for the first team. Georgia’s Carson Beck, Tate Ratledge, and Malaki Starks made the list, while Michigan’s Colston Loveland, Mason Graham, and Will Johnson were also chosen. Two transfers from Alabama, center Parker Brailsford and kicker Graham Nicholson, were part of the first team selections.
Notre Dame and LSU both had two first-team selections. Notre Dame’s Howard Cross III and Xavier Watts were chosen, while LSU was represented by Will Campbell and Harold Perkins Jr. Oregon placed three players on the second team, including quarterback Dillon Gabriel.
The conference breakdown for the first team selections was as follows: SEC – 10, Big Ten – 8, ACC – 4, Big 12 – 3, and Independent – 2.
