Newly promoted Premier League team Leicester City has successfully secured the signing of midfielder Oliver Skipp from Tottenham Hotspur, just before their clash in the opening Premier League game on Monday. Leicester confirmed that the 23-year-old Skipp has inked a five-year deal that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2028-29 season. The transfer fee for Skipp is believed to be over 20 million pounds ($26 million).
Skipp is reuniting with Leicester’s manager Steve Cooper, who previously coached him in England’s youth squads. The defensive midfielder has represented England Under-21s on 24 occasions, notably playing in the European Championship final last year, where England defeated Spain 1-0 to secure the championship title.
Leicester City’s return to the Premier League comes after they claimed victory in the Championship last season, securing promotion back to the top flight at the first attempt. The team had faced relegation seven years after their remarkable Premier League title win in 2016 when they shocked the world as 5,000-1 outsiders.
