Rookie Bo Nix showcased his potential as the potential starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos, leading the team to a 27-2 victory over the Green Bay Packers’ backup players. This marked Nix’s first NFL start, where he successfully guided the Broncos to score on both of his drives. The former Oregon star, drafted as the sixth QB in the 2024 NFL draft, has now led Denver to score in six out of his seven drives during the preseason.
In the game, Nix threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Tim Patrick, who has been making a strong comeback after missing two seasons due to leg injuries. Furthermore, Nix also had a 14-yard pass to Javonte Williams, which was ruled incomplete upon review as he was considered just past the line of scrimmage when he released the ball, resulting in a field goal by Wil Lutz. Nix concluded the game 8 of 9 for 90 yards with an impressive passer rating of 140.7, while Patrick caught four passes for 30 yards; Nix also rushed three times for twelve yards.
The Packers decided to rest 31 players, including their regular starters, leading to a less competitive game compared to the intense joint practice between the two teams on Friday. They were without their typical starters, leaving them at a disadvantage against a dominant Denver performance.
Another standout player for the Broncos was linebacker Jonah Ellis, a third-round pick from Utah, who displayed a strong defensive performance with a forced interception and a strip-sack and recovery that set up a field goal. Despite Denver’s 13 penalties for 120 yards compared to the Packers’ four penalties for 40 yards, the Broncos secured a substantial victory.
The Packers are set to face the Ravens in their upcoming game, while the Broncos will host the Cardinals in their next matchup.
