Over the weekend, a fatal multivehicle crash occurred on Interstate 40 in eastern Tennessee, resulting in two deaths and three injuries. According to the Knoxville Police Department, the incident took place in the early hours of Saturday on the eastbound lanes of the interstate. A passerby lost their life while attempting to help after an initial collision, along with the driver of one of the vehicles involved.
The police report stated that the crash occurred when two vehicles collided rear-end, causing one of them to overturn into the median. The passerby had halted to assist at the scene of the first collision, and that is when a private ambulance collided with one of the vehicles, leading to the tragic deaths. Fortunately, there were no patients in the ambulance at the time of the accident, but the driver and a passenger sustained minor injuries.
The driver of the overturned vehicle, who was thrown from the car during the crash, suffered severe injuries and was rushed to a hospital in Knoxville. Up to the point of the news release, no legal charges had been brought forth, and investigations into the incident are ongoing. At this time, the identities of the victims have not been disclosed.
