The Cincinnati Reds suffered a setback on Saturday as their All-Star pitcher, Hunter Greene, was placed on the 15-day injured list due to elbow soreness. Greene, who has a 9-4 record with a 2.83 ERA and 162 strikeouts, had a strong performance in his last outing against the Cardinals, pitching seven innings of one-run ball in a 4-1 victory. The placement on the injured list is retroactive to Wednesday to allow him time to recover.
Cincinnati’s general manager, Nick Krall, explained that Greene was put on the injured list as a precautionary measure due to the elbow soreness. Greene previously underwent Tommy John surgery in 2019, adding an extra layer of caution to his current injury. An MRI will be conducted in the coming days to assess the extent of the issue.
Despite Greene’s absence, the Reds are working on identifying a replacement for his scheduled start on Monday. Krall acknowledged Greene’s outstanding performance throughout the year and mentioned that the decision was made to ensure the pitcher’s well-being and manage his recovery effectively.
The team is now focused on providing Greene with the support and medical attention needed to facilitate his return to the pitching rotation.
