New York’s Daniel Jones returned to the football field after a season-ending knee injury, but faced challenges, throwing two interceptions during the preseason game against the Houston Texans. The Texans emerged victorious with a 28-10 win over the Giants on Saturday.
Jones, who had torn his ACL in November, sat out the previous preseason game against Detroit but played until halftime in this match, completing 11 of 18 passes for 138 yards.
Houston’s C.J. Stroud threw for 88 yards in one quarter, after Case Keenum replaced him in the second quarter. Stroud had played two series in his preseason debut last week.
During the game, Jones threw two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown by Jalen Pitre. Despite the rocky start, Jones improved as the game progressed, leading a successful 63-yard drive ending in a Devin Singletary touchdown.
John Metchie stood out for the Texans with six receptions for 68 yards and a touchdown from Case Keenum. Malik Nabers, the sixth overall pick in this year’s draft, also made an impact with four receptions for 54 yards for the Giants.
In the fourth quarter, Houston’s British Brooks scored two touchdown runs, extending their lead to 28-10.
The game was not without injuries for the Giants, as linebacker Micah McFadden, OL Ryder Anderson, and LB Matthew Adams suffered various injuries.
Additionally, the NRG Stadium roof remains damaged from Hurricane Beryl, with repairs expected to be completed about a month into the regular season due to supply shortages.
Before the game, the Texans honored the late Jacoby Jones, who passed away from heart disease at 40. Jones, a former Texans player, was remembered by the team and his family during a pre-game ceremony.
Going forward, the Giants will end their preseason against the New York Jets, while the Texans will have a joint practice with the Los Angeles Rams before hosting them in their final preseason game.
