Houston rapper BeatKing, known for his distinctive voice and unconventional songs that gained popularity in clubs and on social media, has passed away at 39, as confirmed by his manager. BeatKing, whose real name was Justin Riley, tragically died after collapsing during a recording session, with his manager citing a pulmonary embolism as the cause. His manager expressed deep sorrow over the loss, emphasizing that Riley’s daughters were by his side throughout the ordeal.

Referred to as Club Godzilla due to his infectious club anthems, BeatKing achieved significant success in 2020 with his viral hit “Then Leave,” which reached No. 3 on Billboard’s Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart. Other popular tracks like “Crush” and “Thick” also contributed to his rising fame. His most recent album, “Never Leave Houston on a Sunday,” was released just a month ago.

Renowned for his humorous and risqué lyrics, BeatKing made a mark on the Houston music scene in 2010 with “Kings of the Club,” appealing to a younger demographic less acquainted with the city’s traditional slowed music style. He collaborated with notable artists such as 2 Chainz, Bun B, T-Pain, and Ludacris, though he did not attain the same level of national recognition as some of his Houston peers.

Celebrities and fans alike mourned his passing, with 2 Chainz and Bun B paying tribute on social media. Fans reminisced about BeatKing’s influence on the club scene during the 2010s, remembering his signature style featuring black T-shirts with catchy phrases. Survived by his partner and two daughters, BeatKing leaves behind a legacy of authentic Houston sound and a loyal fan base across the South.

This tragic loss marks the end of an era for the Houston music community, as BeatKing’s vibrant presence and unique talent will be sorely missed.
