Marketa Vondrousova and Cam Norrie pull out of U.S. Open due to injuries

Marketa Vondrousova, the reigning Wimbledon champion, and Cam Norrie have withdrawn from the upcoming U.S. Open due to injuries. Vondrousova, currently ranked 18th, is dealing with a hand injury, while Norrie, ranked 47th, has a forearm issue. Vondrousova, a 25-year-old player from the Czech Republic, claimed her first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon in 2023 and was the runner-up at the 2019 French Open. She also secured a silver medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Since her first-round defeat at Wimbledon in July, she has not competed, becoming the first woman since 1994 to lose her opening match at Wimbledon after winning the title.
Petra Martic will take Vondrousova’s place in the women’s draw at the U.S. Open, while Francisco Comesana will substitute for Norrie in the men’s bracket for the final Grand Slam event of the year. The U.S. Open draw will be announced next Thursday, with matches scheduled to start on August 26.
