In Stow, Ohio, a tragic incident unfolded at a fast-food drive-thru where a man shot and killed a woman in another vehicle before taking his own life. Police confirmed that the man, identified as Jason Williams, did not know the woman, Megan Keleman. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, as stated by Stow Police Chief Jeff Film during a news conference on Thursday.
The heartbreaking event occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday in this Akron suburb. Witnesses reported that Keleman, 25, had pulled in front of Williams, 53, to enter the drive-thru line. Following a honk and a minor collision initiated by Williams, Keleman requested assistance from the restaurant staff to contact the authorities.
Subsequently, Williams exited his vehicle and fired at Keleman before turning the gun on himself. Although both individuals were alone in their cars at the time, Keleman had her dog with her, thankfully unharmed during the incident. The Summit County Medical Examiner has determined Keleman’s death as a homicide due to a gunshot wound to the neck, while Williams’s death has been classified as a suicide.
Chief Film expressed profound sorrow over the tragedy, acknowledging the loss suffered by the Keleman family and the community as a whole. He emphasized the challenge of comprehending the motivations that led Williams to make such a fateful decision. The Stow Police Department and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation are actively looking into the case, with the state agency’s involvement attributed to Stow’s limited number of homicide detectives, as the city’s last homicide took place five years ago.
