Despite recent struggles by the Orioles and Yankees, the Red Sox are facing an uphill battle to catch up in the standings, trailing the Kansas City by 2 1/2 games for the final wild card spot in the American League. Baltimore has dominated the Red Sox this year with a 6-1 record against them and a strong 27-13 record within the AL East.
In roster news, Boston sent INF Jamie Westbrook outright to Triple-A Worcester, while the Orioles recalled INF Livan Soto from Triple-A Norfolk and sent INF Coby Mayo to Norfolk. Additionally, in terms of injuries, Red Sox’s DH Masataka Yoshida was hit by a pitch but remained in the game, and Orioles’ OF Anthony Santander fouled a pitch off his leg but also stayed in the game.
