In Berea, Ohio, the Cleveland Browns’ Pro Bowl wide receiver, Amari Cooper, had to leave Thursday’s joint practice with the Minnesota Vikings early due to an unspecified injury. Coach Kevin Stefanski described the injury as “sore” after the practice session. Cooper got injured after catching a short pass from Deshaun Watson and could be heard yelling as he made a sudden move on the field. He stayed on for a few more plays before heading to the facility with a trainer.
Last season, the 30-year-old Cooper had an impressive performance, catching 72 passes for 1,250 yards for the Browns. He is considered one of the team’s top players and leaders. Cooper has accumulated 150 catches for 2,410 yards and 14 touchdowns during his two seasons with the Browns. Another player, defensive tackle Maurice Hurst, also had to exit practice early due to a leg injury, with no further update provided by Stefanski.
Rookie Mike Hall Jr., a second-round pick from Ohio State, was absent from practice on Thursday after experiencing a stinger during Wednesday’s drills. Hall was recently arrested and charged with domestic violence for allegedly pointing a gun at his fiancée during an argument. Despite criticism for allowing him to participate, Hall is set to return to court on September 10. Stefanski mentioned the possibility of Hall being sidelined for some time due to the injury.
In other team news, cornerback Denzel Ward is still undergoing concussion protocol. Stefanski confirmed that the starters, including Jameis Winston as the backup quarterback, would not be playing in the upcoming exhibition against the Vikings on Saturday. Following an impressive performance in the previous preseason game against Green Bay, QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson will be starting, with Tyler Huntley coming in to finish the match.
