Katy Perry is set to be honored with the Video Vanguard Award at the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards in 2024, where she will also take the stage for a performance. This prestigious award has been previously received by acclaimed artists such as Shakira, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, and Missy Elliott. Perry’s last appearance at the MTV VMAs was in 2017, where she not only performed but also hosted the event. Throughout her career, the pop singer has secured five VMA wins, with her initial three awards obtained in 2011 for “Firework” and “E.T.” featuring Kanye West.
Bruce Gillmer, the chief content officer of music at Paramount+ and president of music, music talent, programming, and events at Paramount, praised Perry’s artistic influence and global impact as a symbol of pop culture. Taylor Swift leads the nominations list for the 2024 VMAs, securing a total of 10 nominations including eight for her music video “Fortnight,” as well as nods in the artist of the year and best pop categories. Following closely behind Swift is her collaborator on “Fortnight,” Post Malone, who received nine nominations. Malone’s ninth nomination is for his country hit “I Had Some Help,” in collaboration with Morgan Wallen.
The 2024 MTV VMAs are scheduled to be broadcast live on September 11 at 8 p.m. Eastern Time from the UBS Arena on Long Island, New York. Fans can participate in online voting commencing Tuesday across 15 gender-neutral categories, with voting concluding on August 30.
