SWANTON, Ohio — Tragedy struck on the Ohio Turnpike as four individuals lost their lives and multiple others sustained injuries in a series of accidents involving several trucks, one of which was transporting sulfuric acid, according to the State Highway Patrol. These collisions resulted in the closure of both directions of the Ohio Turnpike, a crucial route connecting Chicago and the East Coast via Interstate 80. The initial crash occurred just west of Toledo and claimed one life, involving four commercial trucks and one passenger vehicle.

A subsequent crash resulted in two fatalities and a spill of sulfuric acid on the roadway. Emergency responders promptly established a 150-foot perimeter around the hazardous spill to ensure public safety. Shortly after the first incident, a third pileup occurred, claiming another life, as reported by the state patrol.
