Authorities in Los Angeles have detained at least one individual in relation to the passing of Matthew Perry, as per a law enforcement official speaking on the condition of anonymity. A news conference is scheduled to disclose more details on the case. Los Angeles police had initiated an investigation with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service to understand why the 54-year-old Perry had a significant amount of the surgical anesthetic ketamine in his system.
Perry was discovered face down in his hot tub on October 28, and despite immediate medical attention, he was pronounced dead. Following the autopsy released in December, it was revealed that the level of ketamine in his blood was within the range utilized for general anesthesia during surgical procedures. Perry had been undergoing ketamine infusion therapy as reported by individuals close to him, yet the levels in his system could not be explained by his last treatment a week and a half prior. The investigation confirmed that no illegal drugs were found at Perry’s residence.
The primary cause of Perry’s death was determined to be ketamine overdose, which was classified as accidental with no suspicion of foul play. The coroner mentioned drowning and other underlying health conditions as contributing factors. Perry, known for his role as Chandler Bing on the hit show “Friends,” battled addiction issues for years. Alongside Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer, Perry achieved fame as one of the leading stars on the NBC sitcom for a decade.
