Tottenham’s midfielder, Yves Bissouma, will be absent from the start of the Premier League season as he has been suspended by the club. The suspension follows an investigation into footage that surfaced, showing Bissouma using nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas. The videos were posted on his Snapchat account over the weekend.
Bissouma, who represents Mali internationally, has issued an apology and recognized his lack of judgment in a statement he released. As a consequence of the investigation, Bissouma has been given a one-match suspension, which means he will not be able to participate in Tottenham’s Premier League opener against Leicester on Monday.
Tottenham’s manager, Ange Postecoglou, expressed disappointment in Bissouma’s actions, emphasizing the player’s responsibilities towards the club, teammates, supporters, and everyone associated with the team. Postecoglou mentioned the need for Bissouma to regain trust, both with him and the rest of the group. The manager stated that Bissouma needs to make efforts to rebuild that trust.
Nitrous oxide, commonly used in medical settings as an anesthetic and pain reliever, is also misused as a recreational drug for its euphoric effects. Prolonged and heavy use of nitrous oxide can lead to damage to the brain and nerve tissue.
