In Yekaterinburg, Russia, a U.S.-Russian dual national named Ksenia Khavana has been sentenced to 12 years in prison by a Russian court for treason. Khavana, also known as Karelina according to Russian authorities, was accused of raising funds for the Ukrainian military. She was arrested in February in Yekaterinburg and reportedly admitted guilt during her closed trial last week.
Khavana acquired U.S. citizenship after getting married to an American and relocating to Los Angeles. She had come back to Russia to visit her family when she was arrested. The Federal Security Service of Russia claimed that she actively gathered money for a Ukrainian organization, which was then used to purchase tactical medical supplies, equipment, weapons, and ammunition for the Ukrainian armed forces.
