In a recent incident in West Orange, Texas, newly released video footage captures a dramatic water rescue by police officers of a woman whose vehicle was almost fully submerged in a pond.
The woman, Jonquetta Winbush, had a seizure while driving in late July, with her two children, a 12-year-old boy, and a 16-year-old girl also in the car. The children managed to escape the vehicle, but Winbush passed out, causing the car to plunge into the pond, as recounted by Assistant Police Chief Jessie Romero.
The body camera footage from patrolman Charles Cobb shows Winbush’s son urgently seeking help from the officer, informing him of his mother’s situation in the sinking car. Cobb promptly assisted, putting the boy in his patrol car and heading towards the submerged vehicle.
By the time Cobb arrived, two local plant workers had already entered the water to rescue Winbush. Following her retrieval from the pond, Cobb administered chest compressions to revive her before emergency medical services arrived.
Winbush’s sister, Bevnisha Holman, expressed her gratitude to one of the workers, Epifanio Munguia, for his crucial role in saving her sister’s life. Holman reached out to Munguia to personally thank him for his assistance during the harrowing incident.
After spending three weeks in intensive care, Winbush is currently in the hospital, where she is now breathing independently. Romero noted that despite the ordeal, Winbush is expected to make a full recovery.
