England’s cricket captain, Ben Stokes, will not be participating in the upcoming test series against Sri Lanka due to a torn hamstring he suffered during a domestic match over the weekend. The 33-year-old sustained the injury while batting for Northern Superchargers in The Hundred competition on Sunday and was later seen using crutches. Stokes will be absent for all three tests of England’s series against Sri Lanka, set to commence on Aug. 21. England announced in a statement that Stokes aims to make a comeback for the team’s winter test tour of Pakistan, with the first test scheduled for Oct. 7 in Multan. In Stokes’ absence, England’s vice-captain, Ollie Pope, will take on the role of leading the team against Sri Lanka. The management confirmed that no additional players will be added to the squad for the series.
