Vikings player Jordan Addison detained in California for suspected DUI

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison was arrested in California on suspicion of driving under the influence, marking the second consecutive year he has faced trouble on the road just before the start of training camp. The Vikings issued a statement on Monday acknowledging the incident and mentioned they are currently gathering more details, refraining from providing further comments at the moment.
According to the California Highway Patrol, an officer was dispatched on Friday night to respond to a report of a vehicle blocking a lane on the westbound Interstate 105 exit to Sepulveda Boulevard, which leads to Los Angeles International Airport. Upon arrival, the officer discovered Addison asleep in the driver’s seat of his white Rolls-Royce. A DUI investigation was performed, leading to his subsequent arrest.
Released two hours later, the 22-year-old Addison’s agent did not immediately respond to requests for comment made by The Associated Press. Last year, the former USC player, selected in the first round as the 23rd overall pick, was arrested by the Minnesota State Patrol for speeding excessively and driving recklessly just before his first training camp, clocking 140 mph in a 55 mph zone. Addison claimed he was rushing home due to his dog being in an emergency situation.
Following that incident, he admitted to his mistake, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge, paid a fine, and had his license suspended for six months. Addison expressed his regret at a press conference before the team’s first full practice, acknowledging his poor decision-making and emphasizing the lessons learned.
Despite his off-field issues, Addison had a successful rookie NFL season, participating in all 17 games and recording 911 receiving yards with 10 touchdowns. He serves as the primary target behind star player Justin Jefferson in the upcoming season, amidst changes in the Minnesota offense with Kirk Cousins’ departure. Vikings veterans are scheduled to begin training camp on Sunday.
This news comes as another blow to the team following the recent tragic death of rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson in a car accident in Maryland, which also claimed the lives of two of his close friends.
