French XV defeats Uruguay 43-28 during challenging South American tour

A French XV triumphed over Uruguay with a score of 43-28 in a match held between France’s games against Argentina on their South American tour. Baptiste Couilloud and Posolo Tuilagi led the French development team with two tries each, building a strong lead of 23-7 by halftime in Uruguay. Despite Uruguay’s late comeback, managing to score four tries, including a penalty try, France maintained control throughout much of the game.

The French team, which included eight debut players, secured a victory of 28-13 against Argentina in Mendoza last weekend and is set to face the Pumas again on Saturday at Velez. However, France’s tour has been shadowed by controversy, with fullback Melvyn Jaminet facing suspension after a racist remark in a video. Following the incident, Jaminet issued an apology, and the French rugby federation (FFR) denounced the comments as not aligning with the sport’s core values.

Furthermore, two French players, Oscar Jegou and Hugo Auradou, were arrested in Buenos Aires on accusations of sexual assault, based on a request from Mendoza prosecutors. Although the players have not been formally charged, they were expected to be transferred to Mendoza for further investigation, as local authorities refrained from disclosing specific details about the alleged assault.
